NIZWA TO MAHOUT

greater hoopoe-lark

There aren't any traditional birding sites as you drive south from Nizwa to Mahout/Barr al Hickman. However, there is some good roadside birding to keep you entertained on the 3h 20mins drive (315kms), with raptors being a notable feature. Often you can see Egyptian Vulture, Steppe Eagle, the occasional Pallid Harrier, and Long-legged Buzzard. Passerines include Steppe Grey Shrike (pallidostris), Arabian Grey Shrike (aucheri), Greater Hoopoe-Lark, Asian Desert Warbler and Black-crowned Sparrow-Lark.
